Not dead yet, nor do I expect to be

I’ve been away from this blog for almost three years, for no good reason except for too much time spent online at my “real job,” and other life events. But I’m not dead yet, and don’t expect to be soon — I’m just getting started on retirement and planning to maniacally travel as long as my feet or wheelchair will take me on planes, trains, and automobiles.

This post is more for me than for the reader, to jump start my writing with one of my favorite tools, the list: What I hope and plan to write about in the coming weeks and months.

  • Hiking to Bishop Pass, California
  • Rum running at Wood Island, Kittery
  • On Veteran’s Day, we say “never forget,” but then we do: My great-uncle Jame Sweeney, who died too young during World War I.
  • Appalachian Trail Road to Road hike, Rangeley, Maine
  • Trekking in New Zealand
  • Hiking on the John Muir Trail, California
  • Biking in the French and Swiss Alps
  • Thank God for an e-bike in Puglia, Italy
  • Hiking the Sneffels Traverse, San Juan Mountains, Colorado
  • Long walkabouts in Kittery

That’s probably enough to get started. Since I’ve been away, WordPress added new bells and whistles, and I’ve forgotten most of what I used to know about using the platform. So some of these posts may look wonky while I figure things out and polish things up.

Here’s a few photographs from recent adventures. More details coming!

  1. Welcome back! I’m curious what informs your list the most. Is it reading, family history, general wanderlust? Remember reading the encyclopedia and dreaming of faraway lands?
I wish you Godspeed on this next leg of adventures.

    1. That’s a hard question to answer. I think it is general wanderlust, as well as reading. Just finished a couple of interesting books about Greenland, and have my sights set on a visit there next year!
